Lang Son focuses on building steady all-people national defence

(LSO) – The People’s Committee of Lang Son province on September 12 organised a conference to review all-people national defence building work during 2009-2019.

Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Ngoc Thuong chaired the conference.

In the past decade, party committees and administrations at all levels in the province have comprehensively carried out the Party’s directives and resolutions as well as the State’s regulations on building the all-people national defence.

Due attention has been paid to communication and education, helping to raise public awareness and promote responsibility of local officials, party members and residents to develop and protect the nation.

The province has enjoyed robust economic growth, as well as progress in socio-cultural affairs and social welfare, thus bettering the spiritual and material lives of local people.

As much as 15 billion VND (651,200 USD) was mobilised to support national contributors. The province has built 241 “houses of gratitude” for national contributors, and repaired 422 others for policy beneficiary families.

Local armed forces have been developing strongly, with comprehensive development in politics, ideology and organisation, making contributions to ensuring social order and protecting national border sovereignty.

The province is now home to 346 militia units while reserve forces have been built in all agencies.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Ngoc Thuong asked administrations at all levels, sectors and localities to consolidate and build a strong all-people national defence in tandem with ensuring people’s security.

The chairman also urged local departments and agencies to focus more on providing national defence and security training for officials, Party members, military personnel and people to improve their awareness of national construction and safeguarding.

He stressed the need to include national defence and security in socio-economic development plans and take account of building national and civil defence works when developing local infrastructure. The province must well organise military diplomacy activities, particularly expanding cooperation with Chinese authorities, people and border protection forces, he noted.

Thuong also urged competent forces to closely monitor the local situation and work together to wisely and flexibly settle issues right from the grassroots level to ensure political security and social order in the province, thereby helping to firmly protect national sovereignty and border security.

On this occassion, the Political Commissar of Military Region 1 and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee honoured 15 individuals and 17 collectives in recognition of their outstanding achievements in building national defence from 2009 – 2019./.
