All levels of Red Cross Society in the province join hands to overcome natural disasters

In the early days of May, many places in the province has heavy rain, flooding, landslides that affected people’s lives. In order to join hands to overcome the consequences, in the past few days, the Red Cross Society in the province have actively campaigned and called on all levels of government, organizations, individuals, and benefactors inside and outside the province to support money and necessities to help people overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.

One of the districts heavily affected by floods and rains that occurred on May 9 and 10 is Chi Lang district. By the end of May 18, Chi Lang district had 33 houses completely collapsed, more than 1,300 houses were submerged in flood ; 2,000 hectares of crops and fruit trees were flooded; nearly 20 bridges for people’s livelihood were drifted and damaged… the initial damage was estimated at 170 billion VND. Immediately after receiving information about the damage caused by rain and floods in the area, the Red Cross Society of Chi Lang district has mobilized agencies, organizations, businesses and benefactors inside and outside the district to support money and necessities. At the same time, the society used funds to organize delegations to visit, encourage and support severely damaged families so that they can stabilize their lives.

For example, the family of Phung Thi Thanh Tuyen, Lung Cut village, Dong Mo town, Chi Lang district (5th grade student, Dong Mo town Primary School 1 ). Tuyen’s parents are divorced, her father is a worker away from home, her income is unstable, all her schooling is taken care of by her grandmother. At about 4 am on May 10, while the two of them were sleeping, the flood suddenly came, collapsing the house, both of them were swept away with all the family’s possessions. Fortunately, both of them were able to cling to the tree branch and people came to save them in time. Knowing the difficult situation of the family, the Red Cross Society of Chi Lang district coordinated with the district organizations and unions to organize a visit to the district health center (where the two were hospitalized) to visit, support and encourage. At the same time, right after the flood receded, the district Red Cross Society and Chi Lang’s Good Will Club went to the two’s house to survey and call for organizations, individuals and benefactors to rebuild the new house for the grandmother and the grandchildren. After only 10 days of calling and mobilizing, Tuyen’s house was started construction.

Phung Thi Thanh Tuyen said, Me and my grandmother are very grateful to the organizations, benefactors and especially the Red Cross Society at all levels for taking care of and helping our family in the past difficult days.

During the recent historic flood, not only Tuyen’s family was supported and helped to overcome the consequences caused by natural disasters, storms and floods, the Red Cross Society at all levels in the province mobilized resources and extracted funds to visit and support 500 cases affected by natural disasters, storms and floods that occurred on May 9 and 10, with a total value of over 300 million VND.

In the period 2017 – 2022, the Red Cross Society in the province have unexpectedly supported 15,000 cases affected by natural disasters, with a total value of over 7.9 billion VND. The relief and overcoming of consequences of natural disasters, timely implemented by the Red Cross Society have helped the affected people to ease their difficulties, and encouraged them to rise up and stabilize their lives.

Ms. Pham Thi Huong, Vice President of the Provincial Red Cross Society said, in order to support and accompany people affected by natural disasters, in the coming time, Red Cross Society in the province will continue to promote propaganda and prepare resources for timely disaster relief and support. At the same time, the society continue to coordinate with sectors, mass unions, organizations, individuals and benefactors to expand and diversify humanitarian assistance activities, thereby multiplying the spirit of solidarity, mutual assistance and supporting each other in the community.
