National Steering Committee on natural disaster prevention and control inspects in Lang Son province

On June 16, the inspection team of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control led by Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Binh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, Standing Vice Chairman of the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue (SAR), Deputy Head of the National Committee on Disaster Prevention and Control to inspect the disaster prevention and control in Lang Son province.

Receiving and working with the inspection team on the side of Lang Son province were Mr. Luong Trong Quynh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; leaders of relevant departments and sectors of the province; leaders of the districts: Chi Lang, Cao Loc and Lang Son city.

According to the report of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Lang Son province, in the first 6 months of 2022, the province was affected by various types of natural disasters such as severe cold and damaging cold. Especially in the days from May 10 to May 15, 2022, in the province, there was heavy rain on a large scale, causing floods, inundation and landslides. As of June 8, 2022, in the whole province, 3 people died, 3 people were injured; 73 houses collapsed; 252 roofless houses, damaged; 4,702 houses were flooded; 43 schools are affected or damaged; 1,745 ha of rice, 2,743 ha of flowers and vegetables, and 1,876 ha of maize were damaged… many roads were severely damaged. Total damage was estimated at over 677 billion VND.

Immediately after the disaster occurred, the Provincial People’s Committee directed the sectors, the administration of the districts, the city and the functional forces to organize support for the people to overcome the consequences of the disaster and stabilize their lives. At the same time, the Provincial People’s Committee has supported more than 2.6 billion VND from the provincial disaster prevention fund to overcome damage caused by natural disasters in the area.

During the program, the delegates exchanged information and clarified the characteristics of the local situation and natural conditions, and the issues in leadership and direction on disaster prevention and SAR in Lang Son province during the past time.

At the inspection, the leader of the Provincial People’s Committee proposed the inspection team to report to the Prime Minister and the ministries and central agencies interested in considering and supporting Lang Son province with  396 billion VND to overcome the consequences of natural disasters that occurred on May 2022.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee affirmed,  Facing with complicated developments of natural disasters and weather, the province has proactively implemented timely response solutions; however, the province’s funding to repair the damage is still limited. In the coming time, the province will continue to pay attention to the strengthening of the commanding committees for disaster prevention and control at all levels, assigning specific tasks to members; strengthen the work of information, propaganda and forecasting; well implement the motto “four-on-the-spot” to serve timely response, minimize the damage caused by natural disasters.

Concluding the meeting, the head of the inspection team noted the results achieved in the work of disaster prevention and control in Lang Son province over the past time. He suggested the province strengthen grasping the weather situation to actively develop plans and specific plans to promptly respond to all situations; good implementation of  motto “four-on-the-spot”.   He also suggested that the local armed forces need to be proactive in consulting work, proactive in means and forces, and assign specific tasks to be ready to participate in disaster prevention and SAR, etc.

For the recommendations of the province, the inspection team received, summarized and reported to the superiors for consideration.

During the inspection, the delegation visited the actual work to ensure disaster prevention at Cam Son dam, Hoa Lac commune, Huu Lung district and the landslide site in Lung Cut village, Dong Mo town, Chi Lang district.
