More than 1,000 children receive free screening for congenital heart disease

On July 2, at the Provincial General Hospital, the Organizing Committee of the Program “Heart for you” in collaboration with Vietel Lang Son, the National Children’s Hospital, the Provincial General Hospital organized a free screening program for children under 16 years old in the province to detect congenital heart disease early.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee acknowledged the contributions of Viettel Group in general and Viettel Lang Son branch in particular over the past years, which have actively connected and brought the free heart disease screening program for children to the province.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee suggested that: Lang Son Newspaper, Provincial Radio and Television Station, and other media agencies strengthen propaganda about the program, creating a positive spillover effect. Agencies, businesses and individuals in the province join hands to support the program with practical actions, contributing to giving unlucky children with congenital heart disease a healthy heart and a healthier life, brighter future.

Doctor of Cardiovascular Center – National Children’s Hospital examines children

As of 10 am on July 2, 2022, doctors from the Cardiovascular Center – National Children’s Hospital have examined more than 1,000 children suspected of having congenital heart disease or having symptoms and manifestations such as: recurrent coughing, wheezing; unusual breathing; children often have pneumonia, bronchitis; children are slow to grow, pale, cold, sweaty, easily tired; lips, tongue, fingertips purple blue…

After screening, doctors will appoint intervention and surgery for children with congenital heart disease. In particular, disadvantaged children will be guided to complete the application for financial support for surgery from the “Heart for you” program with an average operating cost of about 40 million VND per case.

As planned, on July 3, the program will continue to be held at Binh Gia District Medical Center for children in the whole province. Children suspected of having congenital heart disease who have not been screened at the Provincial General Hospital on July 2 can be screened at the Binh Gia District Health Center on July 3.

“Heart for you” is a program to support free surgery for poor children under 16 years old, support to improve medical capacity, organize screening activities for congenital heart disease for children. The program was founded and operated by the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel) and the Vietnamese Heart Foundation – Vietnam Television since 2008.

It is known that this is the second time the congenital heart screening program has been held in Lang Son. Previously, in 2017, the program was carried out at the Provincial General Hospital with 3,700 children examined, of which 51 children with congenital heart disease were found.
