On the morning of October 3, Mr. Duong Xuan Huyen, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for the Construction of the Global Geopark of Lang Son Province chaired a meeting with the Management Board of Lang Son Geopark on evaluating the implementation progress of the Project ” Establishment, construction and development of Lang Son Geopark in the period of 2021 – 2025″.

Mr. Duong Xuan Huyen, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee delivered a directing speech at the meeting

The project “Establishment, construction and development of Lang Son Geopark in the period of 2021 – 2025” includes 12 groups of key tasks. Over the past time, agencies and units, especially Lang Son Geopark Management Board, although newly established and put into operation, it has actively implemented the assigned tasks. Up to now, 7/12 key tasks of the project have been focused on implementing, reaching about 60% of the plan. Along with that, Lang Son Geopark Management Board has implemented 75/101 criteria in the dossier to submit to UNESCO for recognition of Lang Son Global Geopark.

Some tasks have not been guaranteed progress due to the appraisal of the procurement plan and the contractor selection plan to implement the bidding package “Investigation, survey, additional research, assessment and ranking of heritage values” was slow, leading to the fact that other tasks could not be implemented. It is expected that when the bidding is completed in October 2022, relevant units will conduct investigation, survey and complete the dossier to submit to UNESCO. Some other long-term content will continue to be implemented in the near future.

At the meeting, the delegates focused on discussing and offering solutions to remove difficulties and obstacles in the operation process of Lang Son Geopark Management Board such as: organizational apparatus, operating funds and vehicles; coordination work to speed up the preparation of documents to be submitted to UNESCO for recognition of global geopark…

Concluding the meeting, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee suggested: Members of the Steering Committee and Management Board of Lang Son Geopark continued to perform well in advising and implementing propaganda and advocacy tasks to raise awareness of officials, party members and all classes of people in the province about the value of geological heritage and the benefits that the Geopark brings. At the same time, it is necessary to continue to strengthen coordination between departments, sectors, agencies and units in the implementation of projects under the scheme.

Additionally, Lang Son Geopark Management Board continues to review and accelerate the implementation of assigned tasks; coordinates with the People’s Committees of districts and city to promote the protection and promotion of the value of geological heritages, as well as tangible and intangible cultural heritage values and environmental sanitation in the Geopark.

He also asked the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism – the standing agency of the Provincial Steering Committee for Global Geoparks to continue to coordinate with the Department of Finance to review and remove obstacles related to the project implementation progress as well as the allocation of funds in order to complete the goal of submitting the dossier to UNESCO for recognition of the Lang Son Global Geopark according to the set schedule.
