Opening an exhibition on “Introducing and performancing cultural heritages of Nung, Tay and Dao ethnic groups in Lang Son province”

On the morning of November 22, at the Provincial Museum, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held the opening an exhibition on “Introducing and performing cultural heritages of the Nung, Tay and Dao ethnic groups in Lang Son province”.

Attending were Mr. Duong Xuan Huyen, Member of Standing Committee of Provincial Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee; representatives of departments, boards, sector, unions, agencies and armed forces of the province; representatives of some cultural experts and researchers from the central level and 250 students and youth union members in the province.

This exhibition displayed nearly 200 typical and selected images, documents and artifacts divided into 3 main parts, including intangible cultural heritage of the Nung ethnic group, that of the Tay ethnic group and that of the Dao ethnic group.

In addition to the exhibition space, the model of the traditional stilt house of the Tay ethnic group was recreated and there were activities demonstrating some traditional crafts of the Tay and Nung people such as knitting and weaving, making the head of a lion, making a chicken from clay … and traditional folk games named danh sang, danh yen, tung con and walking on stilts,…

In the opening ceremony, the Provincial Museum received the oracle sticks of Cong Dong Bac Le temple, consisting of 24 printed sticks, printed on both sides, contributing to a total of 28 written oracle outcomes. They are carved on wood made from Diospyros decandra tree. These are valuable artifacts in terms of historical as well as folklore research in Lang Son province.

Also on this occasion, the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded the certificate of merit for “excellent achievements in preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage in Lang Son province in 2020-2022”. ” to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hiep, French Institute for Advanced Study; Dr. Pham Van Anh, Deputy Director, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Literature Research Journal – Institute of Literature. These were two individuals who have researched and translated the set of oracle sticks of Bac Le Cong Dong Temple and wished to offer them to Lang Son Provincial Museum.

The exhibition was a practical activity to celebrate the 17th anniversary of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23). It contributed to raising awareness and responsibility of the community in the conservation and promotion of national cultural heritage values ​​in terms of building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet sustainable development requirements of the country.

The exhibition would take place from November 22 to December 15, 2022.
