Opening ceremony of the 2023 Tien Pagoda Festival

On the morning of February 8, the People’s Committee of Chi Lang ward, Lang Son city held the opening ceremony of the 2023 Tien Pagoda Festival. This is one of the 11 festivals selected by the Organizing Committee of  celebrating the Party and 2023 Lunar New Year  in Lang Son province to be the key festival.

Attending the opening ceremony were Mrs. Doan Thi Loan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Lang Son City Party Committee.

Tien Pagoda – Fairy Well located in the heart of Dai Tuong mountain, in the territory of Chi Lang ward, Lang Son city, is a cluster of relics containing many unique cultural and religious values with a system of folk tales, ancient epitaphs, ancient statues… Tien Pagoda Festival is held on January 18 every year. This is one of the unique traditional cultural festivals of the people of Lang Son province, it is an opportunity for tourists to visit, admire, enjoy, contribute to promoting the culture of Lang Son to friends, tourists inside and outside the province.

Special musical performance at the opening ceremony

The 2023 Fairy Pagoda Festival is organized with two parts: the ceremony and the festival. The ceremony includes the following rituals: beating the drum to open the festival, offering incense to the pagoda to pray for a new year with favorable weather and rain, green trees, prosperous families, and prosperity. The festival part features special performances and traditional folk games such as: Mandarin square capturing, hitting pots while blindfolded, pushing sticks, stall dancing, sli singing, gliding, cultural exchanges between clubs…

The Tien Pagoda Festival is an opportunity for locals as well as tourists from near and far to satisfy their spiritual needs and review the merits of their ancestors, express gratitude to the saints, fairies and national heroes who have contributed to helping the people and the country, praying for fortune, luck and peace for the family in the new year. This is also an opportunity to meet, exchange, connect the community and raise the sense of responsibility for preserving the culture and heritages and landscapes of Lang Son.

Tien Pagoda – Fairy Well was granted a national relic rating by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 1992. In June 2020, the relic was recognized as a tourist destination of the province.
