Opening Ky Cung – Ta Phu festival

On the morning of February 12 (22nd of the first lunar month in the year of the Cat), the Festival Organizing Committee of Vinh Trai and Hoang Van Thu wards (Lang Son city) held the opening ceremony of Ky Cung Temple Festival and Ta Phu – Ky Lua Temple Festival. These are two typical festivals held annually on 22nd and 27th of the first lunar month every year. They are parts of a series of activities to respond to the Culture, Sports and Tourism Week of Lang Son province in 2023.

Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Ho Tien Thieu, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; Mrs. Doan Thi Loan, Member of Standing Committee of Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of City Party Committee; former leaders of the province; leaders of departments, boards and sectors of the province; leaders of the City Party Committee, the City People’s Committee; with a large number of people and tourists nationwide.

At the opening ceremony, the delegates listened to the history of the two-temple festival and enjoyed the lion and dragon dance, the lion-cat dance, and cultural performances with ethnic folk songs such as then, sli, luon, with songs and dances, praising the beauty and people of Xu Lang, the love for the country, and wish for a peaceful and happy new year. After the opening ceremony, the delegates offered incense at the two temples.

The festival takes place from 22nd to 27th of the first lunar month, with many special activities such as sacrifices, palanquin processions and special games and folk performances of the people of all ethnic groups in Lang Son.

The festival is imbued with the traditional culture of the people of all ethnic groups in Lang Son, expressing gratitude and remembrance to the great merits of the two mandarins who contributed to the construction and development of the country and Lang Son at the end of 17th and early 18th centuries, who were Than Cong Tai (worshiped at Ta Phu – Ky Lua Temple) and Tuan Tranh (worshiped at Ky Cung Temple). At the same time, it shows the spirit of solidarity,  the good wishes for a year of favorable weather, good fortune, luck and happiness.

After the opening ceremony, the palanquin procession departed from Ta Phu – Ky Lua temple to Ky Cung temple to fetch Tuan Tranh. At 12 o’clock, the procession carried Tuan Tranh from Ky Cung temple to Ta Phu – Ky Lua temple.
