A large number of people attend Nang Hai Festival

Legend has it that, Nang Hai (also known as Moon Fairies) is seven fairies who helped Na Shao mountain area to escape drought, made favorable rain and wind for growing crops, and taught villagers how to grow wet rice, grow cotton, and weave cloth. When completing the mission, 7 fairies bid farewell to the villagers and flew back to the moon. To commemorate the merits of the 7 moon fairies, every year on the 18th day of the third lunar month, the villagers offer sacrifices and hold festivals to pray for a year of favorable rain and wind, fruitful crops and happy life.

Folk games are played at the festival

It is known that Nang Hai Festival has been restored since 2014. At this year’s festival, there are special activities such as worshiping rituals of the village god; the ceremony to pray for good crops; cultural exchanges and folk games including tug of war, nem con, catching ducks while blindfolding, singing and answering, singing of farewell, singing of recommendation before goodbye and reenacting the scene of the villagers saying goodbye to the 7 fairies…
