Recognizing 10 heritage trees in Cao Loc district

On the morning of June 12, at the historical site of Hang Pai communal house, Con Pheo village, Thuy Hung commune, Cao Loc district People’s Committee held a recognition ceremony for 10 heritage trees in the district. This is an important event of value in terms of ecological environment, history – culture, tourism.

On the central side were Professor, Doctor of Science Dang Huy Huynh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE), Chairman of the Council of Vietnam Heritage Trees. On the side of Lang Son province, there were representatives from a number of provincial departments, agencies and sectors, the Provincial Cultural Heritage Association; leader of Cao Loc district.

Recently, Cao Loc District People’s Committee has cooperated with Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment to survey ancient trees in the district, inspect the technique, determine the age, collect documents related to historical factors to compile dossiers of request for consideration and selection of Vietnamese heritage trees. Accordingly, at the relic of Hang Pai communal house (Thuy Hung commune), there are 2 ancient banyan trees nearly 300 years old. At Thuy Hung Commune Health Center, there is a 400-year-old banyan tree. In Gia Cat commune, in the yard of Bac Nga pagoda, there are two 700-year-old white-flowered trees, two 350-500-year-old banyan trees, and three 150-year-old longan trees. At Tha Cho communal house (Yen Trach commune) there is a 200-year-old banyan tree.

Representative of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE) awarded recognition certificates to communes with heritage trees in the district.

 At the ceremony, the representative of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE) awarded the certificate of recognition of 10 Vietnamese heritage trees to the leaders of Cao Loc District People’s Committee, including: 1 banyan tree in the communal house of Tha Cho village, Yen Trach commune; 2 banyan trees at Hang Pai communal house, Con Pheo village, Thuy Hung commune; 2 white Plumeria rubra, 2 banyan trees, 2 longan trees in the campus of Bac Nga pagoda, Gia Cat commune; 1 banyan tree in the medical center of Thuy Hung commune.

The recognition of heritage trees contributes to the propagation of biodiversity conservation values, cultural values and environmental protection of heritage trees; ; at the same time, raising the awareness of tree conservation for people in the community, attaching nature conservation as well as awakening the potential of sightseeing, cultural tourism, promoting and introducing local images. This is also one of the practical activities of Cao Loc district towards the 90th anniversary of the Provincial Party Committee’s Traditional Day (June 15, 1933 – June 15, 2023).
