The Specialized Subcommittee on Vietnam Global Geopark holds the annual general conference in Lang Son province

On the morning of July 20, in Lang Son city, the Specialized Subcommittee on Global Geoparks of Vietnam (Vietnam National Commission For UNESCO) in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lang Son province held the 2023 Annual Conference.

Attending the conference were Mr. Duong Xuan Huyen, Member of Standing Committee of Provincial Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee, Head of Steering Committee for Construction of Lang Son Global Geopark; members of the Lang Son Global Geopark Construction Steering Committee; representatives of People’s Committees of 8 districts and city in Lang Son Geopark; representatives of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Geopark Management Board of Dak Nong, Cao Bang, and Ha Giang provinces.

On the central side, there were representatives from the Department of Cultural Affairs – UNESCO; Secretariat of the National Committee of UNESCO Vietnam; Institute of Geosciences and Minerals (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment); Ministry of Science and Technology; experts, scientists…

According to the report of the Specialized Subcommittee on Vietnam Global Geopark, in the first 6 months of 2023, the subcommittee has planned and together with the representatives of the member geoparks attended the activities and events organized by the UNESCO Global Geopark Network and the Asia – Pacific Global Geopark Network; periodic inspection and assessment of heritage sites and facilities on tourist routes of Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark, Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark, Dak Nong Geopark are carried out regularly; coordinating with Lang Son Geopark in building a dossier to submit to UNESCO for recognition of a global Geopark… In the last 6 months of 2023, the subcommittee will continue to coordinate and advise on completing the dossier to submit to UNESCO to recognize Lang Son Geopark as a global Geopark in November 2023; propose to the authorities of Cao Bang, Dak Nong and Lang Son provinces to build scientific research centers, convention and conference centers, and accommodation and services for experts associated with cultural parks at the Geoparks…

At the conference, representatives of Geopark Management Boards gave speeches and discussions on such issues as: experience in the process of building and developing a Geopark, completing the Dossier to submit to UNESCO for recognition of a Global Geopark; educational activities on UNESCO Global Geopark; Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark – Conservation and promotion of geological heritage values; Lang Son geological heritage potential…

Speaking at the conference, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee hoped that in the coming time, the National Committee of UNESCO Vietnam, the Specialized Subcommittee on Global Geoparks in Vietnam, the provinces that have been recognized as the Global Geoparks will continue to pay attention to guide with their expertise and experience, helping Lang Son province in the process of building and developing the Geopark, meeting the criteria to be recognized as a Global Geopark.

He requested, after the conference, the Steering Committee for Construction of Lang Son Global Geopark, relevant agencies and units of the province, on the basis of absorbing and learning from your province’s experience, have specific and practical solutions to step by step complete the dossier to submit to UNESCO for recognition of the title of Lang Son Global Geopark.

Signing ceremony of partnership agreement between Lang Son Geopark Management Board and representatives of 15 partner facilities at 4 tourist routes

On this occasion, Lang Son Geopark Management Board signed a partnership agreement with representatives of 15 accommodation service establishments, restaurants, coffee shops at 4 panoramic tourist routes of Lang Son Geopark and Viettel Lang Son, and Vietcombank Lang Son branch.
