Budget collection in first half under review

(LSO) – The Lang Son steering committee for State budget collection held a meeting on June 23to review preliminary outcomes of its work during the first half of the year and set out tasks for the last 6 months.

Nguyen Cong Truong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee and head of the steering committee chaired the meeting.

Between January and June, the committee as well as local districts and cities have directed member agencies to implement synchronous solutions to improve the efficiency of budget collection management and prevent related losses. However, due to the impacts of the COVID-19 epidemic, the work faced many difficulties.

During the period, the province collected more than 2.98 trillion VND (125.5 million USD), down 10.6 percent year-on-year and fulfilling 48.5 percent of the budget estimate. Of the total, domestic revenues stood at about 1.27 trillion VND, an annual decrease of 17.8 percent and equivalent to 46.5 percent of the estimate. Meanwhile, the collection from import-export activities amounted to some 1.7 trillion VND, dipping 3.4 percent annually and completing 50 percent of the estimate.

At the meeting, members of the steering committee, and leader of similar committees at the local district and municipal levels highlighted difficulties and problems in budget collection during the first half. They discussed solutions to improve the work in the last half, towards collecting 3.165 trillion VND, meeting the estimate assigned by the provincial People’s Council.

Concluding the function, Truong stressed that despite COVID-19 impacts, close instructions of the the provincial, district and municipal steering committee for State budget collection has produced remarkable results.

Toward the end of the year, he tasked the provincial tax department, and district-and city-level steering committees for state budget collection with closely directing the development of revenue sources, reviewing revenues and taxes as well as types of fees and charges along with debts in land use fee, and building plan for the budget collection in the upcoming six months, among others.

The provincial Customs Department, meanwhile, was assigned to strengthen commercial fraud control and prevention, and create favourable conditions for import and export firms.

Member departments and agencies of the provincial steering committee for State budget collection were directed to continue their coordination with tax authorities in managing land-related revenue sources, and in fighting smuggling, trade frauds, and losses in the transport sector.
