Delegates from 33 provinces and cities attended the conference on implementing the 2020 Youth Law

(LSO) – On October 20, in Lang Son city, Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund in Vietnam held the conference on implementing the Youth Law.

Attending the conference on the central side were Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs; on the provincial side, there were Mr. Nguyen Long Hai, Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People’s Committee; Representing the United Nations was Ms. Naomi Kitahara, Chief Representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Vietnam and representatives of People’s Committees of 33 provinces, cities in the North and Central of Vietnam.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Tran Anh Tuan affirmed that the Youth Law has profound political and legal significance in the new situation; ensuring the continued implementation of the youth’s legitimate rights, obligations and interests; building Vietnamese youth to develop comprehensively, have patriotism, morality, civic consciousness, live up to their ideals; forming young high quality human resources to meet the requirements of the development and international integration period and so on.

The Deputy Minister wished that through the conference, committees, agencies and localities could understand the contents and policies for young people as stipulated in the Law, fully understand directions and responsibilities to bring the Youth Law to life.

Speaking at the conference, the Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People’s Committee pointed out some limitations in implementing the 2005 Youth Law. With the 2020 Youth Law, in the coming time, the Provincial People’s Committee will organize the implementation by specific work discussed in the conference summarizing the Youth Development Strategy for the 2012 – 2020 period  and the Project of 500 young intellectual volunteers on October 21, 2020.

At the conference, delegates were disseminated about the 2020 Youth Law; some new points of the 2020 Youth Law  compared with the 2005 Youth Law; a number of contents to be implemented and responsibilities of ministries, agencies and localities in executing the Youth Law. At the same time, delegates also conducted group discussions to develop plans for implementing the Youth Law at the localities.

The 2020 Youth Law includes seven chapters with 41 articles, of which there are many new points compared to the 2005 Youth Law; for example, it does not stipulate the rights and obligations of young people; legalizing the Party’s regulations on the Youth Month, youth dialogue; having specific policies for each target youth and so forth.
