Preparing good conditions for the new school year

(LSO) – With only one week left, nearly 200,000 students in the province will enter the 2020-2021 school year. Although there are many difficulties due to the Covid-19 epidemic, schools in the province have basically completed the preparation, getting ready for the opening ceremony of the new school year.

 The late end of the 2019 – 2020 school year has had a great impact on preparing conditions for the new school year. Therefore, right after the end of the school year, Department of Education and Training requested Education and Training Divisions, schools to quickly implement the preparation for the new school year. In particular, along with the review, inspection, addition and repair of facilities, this school year has a new task of preparing carefully for the Covid-19 prevention and control. Schools must fully prepare temperature gauges, antiseptic liquids, train about Covid-19 epidemic prevention and control procedures, conduct school and classroom spraying and disinfection, regularly update students’ health status.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong Hai, Principal of Dong Dang Primary School, Cao Loc district said that to prepare conditions for the new school year, the school has actively checked facilities and reported to the District Education and Training Division to supplement equipment. In addition to repairing, the school has also upgraded a number of small items, such as: chair and desk supplementation, classroom decoration; bactericidal spraying for the epidemic prevention.

This new school year is also the first year of implementing the new general education program, so the workload is even greater. During the short summer break, many teachers were sent to the training in using new grade 1 textbooks, fostering to improve their qualifications and so on to meet innovation requirements.

Although the summer vacation time was short, over the past time, Education and Training Divisions in the districts and the city and schools have coordinated to well perform the survey of needs for repairing, upgrading facilities and purchasing equipment and teaching supplies for the new school year.

According to the statistics of Department of Education and Training, implementing the project of solidifying preschool and primary schools in the 2017-2020 period, so far, 308 out of 308 classrooms at 89 school points in the whole province have been built to use in the new school year. Along with that, implementing the plan to invest in building facilities for schools in the province in 2019-2020, the education sector has implemented 20 projects; the People’s Committees of districts and the city have constructed 145 works, renovating and repairing schools and classrooms. In addition to new works, the sector has also directed schools to pay attention to the pedagogical landscape, the learning environment such as whitewashing, redecorating the campus, creating a cool, clean, beautiful landscape; coordinating with functional agencies to organize disinfectant spraying, supplement equipment to prevent Covid-19 and so on to welcome students  to the new school year.

Mr. Hoang Quoc Tuan, Acting Director of Department of Education and Training, said that for schools to grasp and be more proactive in organizing the opening ceremony of the new school year, on the basis of the Decision of Ministry of Education and Training on promulgating the timeframe for the 2020-2021 school year, Department of Education and Training has issued documents guiding the condition preparation for the new school year and the opening ceremony of the 2020-2021 school year. In particular, for preschool, general education and continuing education according to unified regulations in the whole province, the back-to-school time is from September 1, 2020, the opening ceremony of the school year 2020-2021 will be on September 5, 2020.

In order to have the best conditions for the new school year, the preparation of the staff and facilities has been deployed by the provincial education sector to all schools in the province. Enrollment has been seriously taken at all schooling levels, basically reaching the education development plan assigned by Department of Education and Training and the People’s Committees of Districts. The epidemic prevention has been strengthened in all schools to ensure that students and teachers can learn and teach in a disease-free environment.
