Broadcasting 5G Network: Contribute to accelerating digital transformation

Currently, Lang Son province has tested 5G broadcasting at a number of locations in the city. 5G broadcasting is the foundation for promoting digital transformation in the province, bringing many benefits to people and businesses.

Mr. Ho Tien Thieu, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee (2nd from the right) experiences the 5G network of Viettel Lang Son

5G is the 5th generation network, has much higher data transmission speed than 4G network, low latency is only about 1 – 4 milliseconds. In areas with high device density, the 5G network helps to keep the internet connection from being overloaded. If with 4G, users can only download videos with 4k resolution, then 5G allows downloading 8k videos because the speed has been improved to help the data download process take place quickly. The common problem in the 3G and 4G generation is consuming a lot of power when used, but now this problem has been completely solved, contributing to increasing the battery life of the device. There are many mobile network operators implement 5G mobile network services in major cities across the country, but in Lang Son province today, Viettel Lang Son is the first unit licensed to test 5G broadcasting.

Objectives of Resolution No. 49-NQ/TU dated September 28, 2021 of the Standing Board of the Provincial Party Committee on Digital Transformation of Lang Son Province to 2025, the orientation to 2030 is that by 2025, Lang Son will popularize fiber optic broadband internet services to 80% of households in the province, universalize 4G, 5G mobile network services and smart mobile phones. The construction of 5G stations and broadcasting is the foundation for applying advanced technologies such as internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), big data, network security, etc. Since then, it actively contributes to the digital transformation, towards the formation and effective operation of the model of e-government, digital economy and digital society. This also helps positively for businesses doing exporting and importing when carrying out tax and import-export procedures online. Units and individuals promote and do business on the internet, e-commerce platforms will also be more convenient when operating information channels, sales, and product management. The 5G network also allows automation of production lines, crop care, integration of devices to build smart housing models, etc.

Mr. Do Thanh Trung, Head of Infrastructure Division, Viettel Lang Son said: From October 2022, Viettel Lang Son has broadcast 5G network at the following locations: Provincial People’s Committee, Viettel Building, Hoang Van Thu Park, Provincial Military Command, the 2nd Pedagogical College. These hotspots basically serve the needs of provincial agencies and the public sector in the city. With the consent of the Ministry of Information and Communications, at the end of June 2023, we broadcast for agencies, units and people to experience.

At the conference to evaluate the situation and results of digital transformation in the province in the first 6 months of 2023 of the Provincial Digital Transformation Steering Committee on July 3, 2023, Viettel Lang Son introduced about 5G networks. Through experience, 4k videos on YouTube are downloaded almost instantaneously, users can watch online movies with high resolution with fast download speeds that are superior to using 4G networks. With online games, if it takes users up to 5 minutes to download a game with a capacity of about 2GB, with 5G networks, it takes less than 2 minutes for users to successfully download … Currently, smartphones and laptops that support 5G can be accessed and used without having to switch from 4G sim to 5G.

As someone who has experienced using 5G networks, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Chi Lang ward, Lang Son city said: When I learned that Viettel Lang Son has a trial program for 5G networks for people and businesses in the city, I signed up and tried it in areas with 5G networks. 5G transmission speed is very fast. When I log into the application of Xu Lang Digital Citizen, I do not have to wait for the device to download the software and folders, it opens immediately. Before, I had to wait 15 to 30 seconds or even longer before I could use it.

Currently, the province has 1,351 BTS broadcasting stations with 3,186 stations of network operators (853 2G stations; 1,223 3G stations and 1,135 4G stations). 5G transmitters are designed to be compact, easy to install on existing 2G, 3G, and 4G infrastructure in the province, therefore, by 2024, when the whole country will turn off 2G mobile waves and the Ministry of Information and Communications allows mass 5G broadcasting, this will be the infrastructure for network operators in Lang Son to install 5G broadcasting equipment. Taking advantage of this infrastructure, network operators will reduce construction costs and increase efficiency in serving people and businesses.

Lang Son is in the process of implementing comprehensive Digital Transformation, towards building smart urbans. To achieve this goal, the development of 5G networks is inevitable. In the coming time, Viettel Lang Son will continue to develop the 5G network at some border gates and aim to implement it throughout the province.
