Lang Son prepares for implementation of general education programme

(LSO) – Leaders of the People’s Committee of Lang Son province on December 3 had a working session with representatives of the provincial Department of Education and Training to prepare for the implementation of the programme on general education and new textbooks in the locality.

Pham Ngoc Thuong, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, presided over the working session, which also saw the attendance of representatives of departments and agencies.

The Department of Education and Training has asked its bureaus to integrate the preparation for the implementation of the programme into their tasks, organised training courses for officials and teachers, and upgraded material facilities.

Pham Ngoc Thuong, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee, concludes the working session.

Currently, there are 3,466 rooms at primary schools and 60 pairs of primary schools have been merged to better meet educational requirements.

Concluding the working session, Thuong urged the local education and training sector to keep a close watch on the reality, provide specific and accurate statistics along with analyses and solutions, step up coordination in the communication work to create consensus among parents and students and give advice to the provincial Party Committee in building specific plans.

In the first quarter of 2020, the sector needs to submit projects on training teachers and upgrading equipment and material facilities in service of the programme for the 2020-2025 period to the committee.

To select suitable textbooks, the department should organise workshops to collect opinions on the issue, and pay attention to the compilation and assessment of textbooks in localities, especially at elementary schools.

In December 2019, the department should provide consultations for the People’s Committee regarding the establishment of a steering committee for renewing general education and textbooks in the province.

The official also asked relevant departments and agencies to coordinate with the Department of Education and Training in the implementation work.
