Places keeping mementos of Mr. Luong Van Tri and the National Salvation Army 1

(LSO) – Mr. Luong Van Tri, an excellent son of Xu Lang homeland, heroically passed away at a very young age. Due to many different reasons, up to now, there are not many of his personal mementos, but there are lots of memorabilia associated with his teammates in the National Salvation Army 1, with whom he spent his time carrying out revolutionary activities, fighting hard but extremely gloriously as the Commander in Chief, Politician of the Army.

The collection and preservation of mementos related to Mr. Luong Van Tri has always been associated with the process of collecting the province’s historical revolutionary memorabilia, especially artifacts of the Bac Son Uprising. Since 1965, in the process of collecting documents and artifacts related to the Bac Son Uprising, there have been many collected memorabilia of the National Salvation Army 1 during this period. The documents and artifacts of the National Salvation Army 1 are being kept and displayed at the Military Museum (now Vietnam Military History Museum), the Revolutionary Museum (now Vietnam National Museum of History), Viet Bac Museum (now the Museum of Cultures of Vietnam’s Ethnic Groups) and the Provincial Museum.

Lang Son Provincial Museum is the place keeping many personal memorabilia about the revolutionary soldier Luong Van Tri. There are a number of his personal belongings here that were kept by relatives and presented to the museum such as a box of personal belongings that he used during his elementary schooling in Diem He (1920 – 1923); traditional long dresses he wore during his study at Lang Son France – Vietnam Primary School (1924-1927); his sleeping net during his time in China (1928 – 1930) and so on.

Bac Son Uprising Museum is the place preserving the most artifacts about the National Salvation Army 1 associated with Mr. Luong Van Tri’s activities. Among them, the most significant one is the red flag with a yellow star, sewn and embroidered by Hanoi Anti-Imperialist Women’s Union – presented to the National Salvation Army 1 on the occasion of its establishment. This flag was presented by Mr. Hoang Van Thu to Mr. Luong Van Tri who was appointed by the Central Government as Commander in Chief of the National Salvation Army, on the date of its establishment, February 14, 1941 at Khuoi Noi base, Vu Le commune. Along with that are some daily-used personal belongings related to Mr. Luong Van Tri and the soldiers of the National Salvation Army, including the kettle that Mr. Luong Van Tri used in the period of building and developing the revolutionary movement in Bac Son (1938 – 1940); bowls and plates daily used by soldiers of the National Salvation Army; spades used by soldiers of the National Salvation Army to make camps at Khoi Noi base; sticky rice steamers used by Bac Son people to cook sticky rice for the National Salvation Army 1 and so on. Some artifacts were means, weapons for fighting and self-defense of the National Salvation Army soldiers such as pistols, sword holsters, oil bottles for gun cleaning, mussel shells used to make gunpowder and so forth. Besides, there are also documents such as notebooks recording Viet Minh’s action program, political work documents to propagate the revolution in Bac Son.

Other museums, especially Vietnam Military History Museum have  diverse artifacts about Bac Son guerrillas – the National Salvation Army. Most of the artifacts were used in the National Salvation Army’s daily life and fight. In particular, at the Military History Museum is currently holding Mr. Luong Van Tri’s pistol. He used this gun during his revolutionary activities from 1936 to 1939.

Memorabilia about Mr. Luong Van Tri and the National Salvation Army 1 are true historical artifacts that reflect the revolutionary operation process, great dedication and contributions of Mr. Luong Van Tri and his teammates to Vietnamese revolution in general and Lang Son’s revolutionary movement in particular, meaning to educate people from all strata about the spirit of patriotism, arousing pride in the tradition of resilient and indomitable revolutionary struggle of the homeland and the country.
