Mr. Ngo Ba Hoa – Success from the love of Lang Son

When talk about Mr. Ngo Ba Hoa (Binh Gia district), readers who love literature and poetry know him with his works with ethnic and mountainous identities. With the inspiration cultivated from his love for his homeland, Mr. Hoa has been spreading the beauty of the people of Lang Son through poems and prose that have left an impression in the poetic community.

Mr. Ngo Ba Hoa was born in 1987 (To Hieu commune, Binh Gia district) is a young author who composes outstanding poetry in the province in the period after 2000.  He showed his talent and “came to poetry” very early with pure and simple works from a teenager’s perspective on life. When he was still a 9th grader (in 2002), he had his first poem published in Xu Lang Arts Magazine. During his time as a student, he often wrote poetry.

At the age of 19, Mr. Hoa was admitted and was one of the youngest members of the Poetry Association, the Lang Son Literature and Arts Association at that time (2006). After graduating from high school, he attended the Faculty of Theater – Film – Writing of the Military University of Culture and Arts.

From here, Mr. Hoa has the opportunity to foster and cultivate his love of poetry. While studying, he was also composing. Not only writing poetry, he also tried his hand at other genres such as notes, prose, journalism, and screenwriting. The common point in most of his works are images of villages, streams, forests, beauty in national costumes, Then sentences… In 2009, he was admitted to the Vietnam Association of Literature and Arts of Ethnic Minorities.

For more than 20 years following his passion, Mr. Hoa has traveled to many places in the province and the northern mountainous provinces to nurture his creative inspiration. He has composed more than 500 works including poetry (accounting for 60%), short stories, prose… Among them, about 200 works have been published in newspapers and magazines of some provinces, cities and sectors; More than 20 of his poetic works have been set to music by musicians…

Up to now, Mr. Hoa has 4 published poetry books including: The Rainy Season Classroom (2009), The Withered Grass Field (2014), Mieu Linh (2019), Sana’s Eyes (2022).

Mrs. Vi Thi Thu Dam, Vice President of the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts said: The most outstanding feature in Mr.Ngo Ba Hoa is the attachment to literature and art. If many other authors started composing at a very young age, but later failed to maintain their love for literature, for Mr.Hoa, poetry was as attached to the soul. Up to now, despite going through many different jobs, Hoa still devotes part of his time and responsibility to composing. It is that effort and persistence that has helped Hoa win many local and central awards.

In the process of composing poetry, he has won awards such as: Hoang Van Thu Award in Lang Son province in 2009 and 2014; . Award of the Vietnam Association of Literature and Arts of Ethnic Minorities in 2014… Most recently, his poetry collection Sana’s Eyes won the award in 2022 by the Vietnam Association of Literature and Arts of Ethnic Minorities . In 2022, he was one of two typical delegates of the province selected to attend the 10th Young Writers Conference organized by the Vietnam Writers Association (June 2022).

With his success in writing, Mr. Hoa is often invited by agencies and units inside and outside the province as a speaker to share and inspire poetry and literature.

Mr. Hoa shared: In the past, I used to write freely and spontaneously. But over the past two years, I’ve begun to shape my composition by theme. I took the time to go, explore more places in the province, exploit the material to write a series of themed poems praising the beauty of the land and the people of Lang Son.

Entering 2023, along with the role of editor of the TV show Searching for Bolero Star (SCTV11 Channel – Saigon Cable Television), Mr.Hoa is also busy with his events and plans. It is expected that in April 2023, his fifth collection of poems with the title “Middle of a green day” including 56 poems inspired by his homeland, Lang Son will be published.

Believing that, with the love for his homeland expressed in each work, Mr.Hoa will be more and more successful in his work as well as in his poetic career.
