With flexible organizational methods, diverse blood donation propaganda and series of practical and meaningful activities, the Red Journey has created a spreading effect, gradually building a humane community.

Various forms of propaganda

Determining that propaganda  is a decisive factor for the success of the Red Journey, therefore, from the beginning of the year, the Provincial Red Cross Society has advised the Provincial Steering Committee for voluntary blood donation to send a plan to agencies, units, districts and Lang Son city asking for accompanying the organization of the Red Journey. At the same time, the Provincial Red Cross Society cooperated with central and local press agencies to propagate before, during and after the Red Journey. Accordingly, in 10 years, there have been over 200 news, articles and reportages about the organization of the Red Journey, recording the blood donation day and recognizing the units and individuals with typical achievements in the organization, support and donation of blood at the Red Journey posted on the mass media.

Additionally, the recruitment and training of volunteers also received great attention from Provincial Red Cross Society. The training program has provided basic knowledge and skills for volunteers to become the core coordinators participating in building and developing the local blood donation movement in general and the Red Journey in particular. Thereby, the volunteer force has opened nearly 300 propaganda campaigns on blood donation at residential areas, markets, parks, schools, supermarkets, localities responding to the Red Journey and distributed about 38,000 leaflets about voluntary blood donation and hemophilia.

After the volunteers of the Red Journey provided people in residential areas, commune and towns in the district with the information of blood donation, they understand about the Red Journey in particular and the blood donation movement in general. I set an example of blood donation for officials and people to follow. Thereby, in recent years, Gia Loc has always met and exceeded the blood donation target. On average, each year, there are always 30-50 people in the commune participating in blood donation, reaching 110-120%.

The number of participants registering to donate blood and the units of blood received at the Red Journey the following year was higher than that of the previous year. Compared with other provinces and cities in the country, through annual Red Journeys, the number of blood units received is not that high, but there has been a clear change. People from all walks of life have understood about their responsibility for the blood donation movement for public health.

For example, the Red Journey in 2014 in Lang Son received 305 blood units, by 2023, this number was 2,113 blood units (up 6.9 times). The number of blood recipients in the whole year also increased. As in 2014, the whole province received only 1,855 blood units, by 2022, this number was over 10,200 blood units. The number of people participating in blood donation accounted for 1.2% of the total population of the province and gradually met the amount of blood for treatment and emergency patients at hospitals and medical centers in the province.
