Lang Son on the path of innovation and development

Lang Son is a province with a 192-year rich tradition, culture and history (November 4, 1831 – November 4, 2023). In recent years, generations of officials, party members and people of Lang Son province have always been proud of their homeland and have always tried their best to develop it.

Since the establishment of the Van Lang State – the very first primitive form of Vietnam, along with the development of the Vietnamese  national history, Lang Son province has gradually been formed and developed through many periods.  Initially, it was not a separate administrative unit in Van Lang State, the Northern domination period, the Dinh dynasty and the Ly dynasty. In 1225, the Tran dynasty established Lang Son unit and then changed its name to Lang Son town in 1397. In 1466, the Le Dynasty changed it into Lang Son region. On November 4, 1831, in the 12th year of Minh Menh, Lang Son region was changed by the Nguyen Dynasty to Lang Son province.

Heroic tradition

This was a milestone affirming the development of a locality that met all the requirements of geographical, population, political, economic, cultural, defense and security factors as a central-run provincial administrative unit, opening a new era in the development of this land. On July 15, 2009, the Provincial People’s Council issued Resolution No. 08/NQ-HDND announcing November 4, 1831 as the founding date of Lang Son province. Currently, Lang Son province has 10 districts, 1 city with 200 communes, wards and towns.

In the history of building and defending the country, generations of Lang Son’s people have stood shoulder to shoulder with the army and people of the whole country, writing brilliant pages of history, defeating many invasion of the Northern feudal dynasties, firmly protecting national and ethnic sovereignty. Additionally, Lang Son has a rich cultural identity, Bac Son and Mai Pha culture has formed the unique Lang Son cultural region with diverse intangible and cultural values

Since the birth of the Communist Party of Vietnam, under the Party’s leadership, the people of all ethnic groups in Lang Son province have made important contributions to the Party’s revolutionary cause. Typical Bac Son uprising in 1940, the establishment of the National Salvation Army 1, one of the predecessors of the heroic Vietnam People’s Army, victory on Route 4, the liberation of the border and Lang Son province in 1950. It was a resilient “floating port” during the years of resistance against the US, trying its best to support human and material resources for the cause of liberating the South and reunifying the country.

Armed forces hero Tran Quang Thang (Chi Lang ward, Lang Son city) shared: “With patriotism and solidarity, generations of soldiers and people of Lang Son have stood up to protect sovereignty of the Fatherland. Not only did it defeat many invasions from the North, but it also forced the French colonialists and the mighty American empire to end the senseless wars in our country. Personally, I always feel proud to join my teammates in fighting against the America to save the country, thereby contributing to the firm protection of national sovereignty and independence.”

In each period of time, closely following the policies and guidelines of the Party and State, the province has creatively applied and taken appropriate measures to promote advantages, seize opportunities and focus investment on key industries and sectors, creating motivation to accelerate economic development and economic restructuring towards industrialization and modernization. The economic structure has shifted quite positively and it is becoming more and more reasonable, both promoting economic growth and creating new balances for more stable and sustainable development.

 

Various activities to celebrate the anniversary

In the celebration of the 192^nd anniversary of the province’s founding (November 4, 1831 – November 4, 2023) and the 114th birthday of Comrade Hoang Van Thu (November 4, 1909 – November 4, 2023), all levels, sectors from the provincial to the municipal level have organized many educational activities on tradition in order to arouse the pride of all people in the province. Thereby, it helps to promote the available traditions, solidarity to further develop Lang Son province.

Although this year is not an even year for celebration, visits to historical and revolutionary locations, traditional activities, incense offering… has been widely organized by all levels, sectors and localities in many forms. Party committees and cells, socio-political organizations have informed the officials, party members, people about the development of Lang Son province. historical tradition, culture and people of Lang Son, the contributions of the party, government and people of all ethnic groups in Lang Son province in the two great resistance wars of the nation, in the cause of innovation, construction and defense of the Fatherland via many forms including posting outlines and propaganda documents on websites and social networks, organizing political and ideological activities and seminars, revolutionary traditional education, paying tribute, cultural, arts and sports activities…

Typically, carrying out traditional education among youth union members and young people, Lang Son Provincial Youth Union has directed all levels of the Youth Union in the province to closely follow major events of the province and the country to develop organizational plans of meaningful and practical activities. As for the Party Cell of the Provincial Youth Union, this occasion also witnessed a meaningful activity which was a thematic event to celebrate the 192nd anniversary of the founding of Lang Son province and the 114th birthday of Comrade Hoang Van Thu at the monument of Comrade Hoang Van Thu and Provincial Museum with various activities.

Ms. Dinh Thi Anh Thu, Secretary Party Cell and the Provincial Youth Union, said: “The event is not only a practical activity to celebrate the 192nd anniversary of the founding of Lang Son province, the 114th birthday of Comrade Hoang Van Thu, but also to raise awareness and responsibility of officials and party members, encourage them to perform well their professional tasks and individual roles in building and developing Lang Son.”

Comrade Phung Quang Hoi, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Propaganda and Education Commission of the Provincial Party Committee emphasized: “Every year, on the founding aniversary of Lang Son province, we review our traditions and we are proud of our patriotism, solidarity and resilience of our army and people in the struggle for national liberation and the construction of the homeland and country. It is believed that under the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, with the solidarity of all officials, party members, people and soldiers, Lang Son will successfully implement the goals and tasks of socio-economic development in 2023 as well as the goals set by the resolutions of party congresses at all levels.”

Joining to build an increasingly prosperous province

Promoting the glorious tradition in 192 years of development, Lang Son province has made great strides in socio-economic development. Since the Party’s innovation policy (in 1986), Lang Son’s economy has made positive changes, gradually exploiting the province’s potentials and strengths, with a fairly high and continuous growth rate. People’s lives have been improved significantly, politics – society, security – defense are stable and solid.

In each period of time, closely following the policies and guidelines of the Party and State, the province has creatively applied and taken appropriate measures to promote advantages, seized opportunities and focused investment on key industries and sectors, creating motivation to accelerate economic development and economic restructuring towards industrialization and modernization. The economic structure has shifted quite positively and it is becoming more and more reasonable, both promoting economic growth and creating new balances for more stable and sustainable development.

When it comes to the socio-economic development in the first 10 months of 2023, many economic development indicators have made a breakthrough, for example total budget revenue at 6,201 billion VND, accounting for 76.6% compared to the centrally assigned estimate, 75.6% compared to the provincial estimate, equal to 103.3% compared to the same period in 2022, total export and import turnover through the province  estimated at 3,995 million USD, reaching 96.9% of the plan, up 105.1% over the same period… Regarding the implementation of 2023 targets, by the end of October, 2023, the province has achieved and exceeded 15/18 targets (6 targets exceeded and 9 targets met). The growth rate of GRDP is estimated at 6.27%. In the main economic structure, services accounts for 48.77%, agriculture, forestry and fisheries account for 23.77%, industry – construction account for 23.26%. Poverty reduction rate is estimated to reduce by 3%…

The results in socio-economic development are the clearest proof of the will and spirit of the Party, government, army and people of Lang Son in promoting their traditions, uniting to develop the province into an increasingly innovating and developing Lang Son.
