Leaders of Lang Son People’s Committee, Vinataba meet

LSO – Vice Chairman in charge of the Lang Son provincial People’s Committee Ho Tien Thieu chaired a reception for a working delegation from the Vietnam National Tobacco Corporation (Vinataba) led by Chairman of its Members’ Council Ho Le Nghia.

According to a report delivered at the meeting, Lang Son holds suitable soil and climate conditions to plant tobacco. In 2020, the province’s tobacco area is totalled at 1,995 hectares. The production of tobacco materials has brought high economic efficiency, with an average revenue of 40-45 million VND per crop per household, 2-2.5 times higher than rice cultivation. Each year, more than 11,000 households with more than 20,000 members are engaged in tobacco material production.

To ensure stable consumption, the Ngan Son Joint Stock Company has linked with six districts. In the 2020 spring crop, the company committed to purchasing and producing tobacco in the districts with a total area of nearly 1,200 hectares and output of 3,090 tonnes, mainly focusing on Bac Son and Chi Lang districts with a combined area of 1,200 hectares.

Speaking at the meeting, Nghia thanked provincial leading officials for supporting Vinataba’s activities. He expressed his hope that provincial leaders continue directing agencies, units and districts to coordinate in managing and developing tobacco so as to build a stable and high-quality material region.

Thieu asked departments and sectors to guide farmers on how to choose seeds and apply advanced technology in cultivation and production, and to strengthen inspections to promptly detect and punish violations in tobacco business.

He requested Vinataba and the Ngan Son JSC to step up intensive investment, expand growing areas, increase the quality and output, seriously follow contracts signed with farmers, pay attention to social welfare in communes, coordinate closely with departments, sectors and localities to promptly solve arising matters, and create healthy competitiveness in consumption./.
