Boosting sales of custard apple and OCOP products in Chi Lang district

On August 19, the People’s Committee of Chi Lang district coordinated with the Provincial Youth Union to organize an event to boost sales of custard apples and OCOP products in Chi Lang district.

From the arid rocky mountains, starting in the 1990s, with the attention and direction of the Party Committee, the government, the hard work of the farmers, the cooperation and support of scientists, up to now, the communes in rocky mountainous area of Chi Lang district have successfully developed areas for growing custard apple, with a total area of more than 2,500 hectares, an output of over 22,000 tons of fruit and an estimated economic value of over 700 billion VND/ year. Thanks to the development of custard apple trees, many households have a good income, from a few dozen to several hundred million VND/year; Many poor villages and hamlets from poverty now become  60-70% rich.

Currently, the brand of Chi Lang custard apples has been popular to the domestic market, introduced into the system of supermarkets and large food stores, with the tendency to be increasingly favored by consumers because of its particular characteristics and advantages.

In 2011, the National Office of Intellectual Property – Ministry of Science and Technology certified the registration of trademark “Chi Lang custard apples” for custard apples of Chi Lang district, Lang Son province. The Vietnam Records organization recognized “Chi Lang custard apples” of Lang Son province as one of 50 famous fruit specialties in Vietnam according to the Criteria for announcing the value of Vietnamese specialties. The brand of Chi Lang custard apples has been honored by the Vietnam General Association of Agriculture and Rural Development awarded a golden cup and certificate of Top 10 Vietnam Agricultural Golden Brands in 2018, 2019.

In recent years, Chi Lang district has always focused on building the image of Chi Lang custard apples and other OCOP products by organizing trade fairs, introducing agricultural products; organizing communication workshops on the brand of Chi Lang custard apples…

Especially, during the strong changes of the 4.0 technology era and digital transformation and digital economy, farmers in the district have caught up with technology trends in advertisement of products. Accordingly, in order to expand sale channels, businesses, cooperatives and people have opened many stalls of agricultural products on social networks such as Zalo, Facebook, Tiktok, e-commerce platform postmart.vn…

The event “Advertising and boosting sale of custard apples and OCOP products of Chi Lang district in 2023” was held with the aim of continuing to advertise, promote and introduce Chi Lang custard apples of Lang Son province and OCOP products to domestic and foreign markets; being a place to honor the achievements of farmers, businesses and cooperatives; connecting “4 factors”: farmers, businessmen, scientists and managers; promoting the movement of growing custard apple and agricultural products among the people according to advanced management processes; concretizing the agricultural restructuring program associated with new rural development.

It was also an opportunity to promote and call for investment in the agricultural sector, to gradually build a value chain for Chi Lang custard apples in the direction of sustainable development. The event contributed to introducing and promoting the image, culture and people of Chi Lang land in particular and Lang Son province in general in association with the development of community tourism and spiritual tourism.

In addition, this was a very important event to encourage and promote digital transformation in the agricultural industry, to help farmers and businesses boos the sale of quality agricultural products at the lowest cost and the highest profit, towards the goal “each farmer is a trader, each cooperative is a business applying digital technology”.

Within the event, the Organizing Committee held an auction of 8 custards for 770 million VND. In addition, a number of organizations and individuals donated more than 112 million VND. All of the above money will serve social welfare in the district.
