Implementing the rural sanitation and clean water program in 2020

(LSO) – On March 26, 2020, the provincial Steering Committee of the Program on expanding rural sanitation and clean water scale organized the implementation of the 2020 plan. Mr. Ho Tien Thieu, Vice Chairman in charge of the Provincial People’s Committee attended and directed the conference.

The program on expanding the rural sanitation and clean water scale is based on the results of a loan from World Bank. In 2019, authorities handed over and put dozens of water supply and sanitation facilities into operation, cleaning schools, supporting 509 families to build hygienic toilets. At the same time, all sectors and units have coordinated to hold training courses to improve the capacity of officials and propagandists participating in the program. In 2020, the program are implemented with a total investment of 104 billionVND. Thereby, it is striving to complete and hand over 9 works; implementing the construction of 14 rural water supply works; building and renovating 66 water supply works and school toilets; building 33 clean water works and toilets for commune health centers; supporting to build 1,000 hygienic toilets for families.

At the conference, the delegates focused on discussing and pointing out the limitations in the program implementation process such as the slow disbursement of capital; limited propaganda to the people; the loose coordination of program implementation among levels and sectors etc.

To conclude, the Vice Chairman in charge of the Provincial People’s Committee requested that in order to improve the effectiveness of the program, it is necessary to continue strengthening the leadership and direction of the Program Steering Committee, especially of thestanding agencywhich is the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD); specify the implementation schedule for listed works in each month and quarter. At the same time, the sectors promote propaganda works, especially about the purpose and significance of the program to the people and innovate the training form.
