The leader of the Provincial People’s Committee attended the meeting responding the Action Month for Drug Prevention and Control

(LSO) – On June 25, at Cao Loc District’s Center for Culture, Sports and Communication, Lang Son Steering Committee for prevention and combat against crimes and social evils and the movement of the entire people protecting the national security (hereinafter referred to as the Provincial Steering Committee 138) collaborated with Lang Son Provincial Youth Union to hold the meeting to respond to the Action Month for Drug Prevention and Control, the International Day against Drug Abuse on June 26.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Duong Xuan Huyen, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Standing Deputy Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 138; leaders of departments, agencies, unions, member units of the Provincial Steering Committee 138; leaders of Cao Loc district and over 1,000 youth union members in Lang Son city and Cao Loc district.

In recent years, drug addiction in Vietnam is still very complicated and tends to increase along with the emergence of many new drugs. Lang Son is a border province, so it is directly affected by the developments of drug crimes in the world, the region and the country.

In the first six months of 2020, provincial functional forces arrested 119 cases with 197 subjects violating Drug Law and confiscated items including 12.5 kilograms of heroin; nearly 52 thousand tablets and 453 kilograms of synthetic drugs. The whole province now has 3,112 drug addicts with a management record, an increase of 129 people compared to the same period in 2019. Notably, drug addicts tend to be younger and younger.

The action month for drug prevention and control, the International Day against Drug Abuse in 2020 have the theme: “Promoting the spirit of the Covid-19 prevention and control, take action for the community without drugs”.

Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee requested that all levels, sectors, unions and localities continue to effectively implement Directive No.36-CT/TW, of the Politburo dated August 16, 2019 on strengthening and improving the effectiveness of drug prevention, fight and control. At the same time, promoting communication and propaganda to raise awareness and warn the whole society, especially adolescents about drug dangers.

It is about to continue promoting the core role of the police force and the synchronous and effective coordination of other forces and the People’s Committees of districts and city in the struggle to eliminate drug trafficking and transportation lines and minor drug dealing points causing annoyance to the people; carrying out peak drug crime suppression. Synchronous measures are implemented to transform complicated drug-related areas. The strict management of drug addicts is applied; the work of detoxification at drug detoxification establishments in the province and at families and communities is well implemented. Violations or recidivism of the law on drug prevention and fight are strictly handled.

Mr. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee asked relevant functional departments and localities to effectively implement the movement of the entire people detecting, denouncing crimes, mobilizing drug addicts and their families to self-declare addiction. Attention is paid to solving post-detoxification issues such as  vocational training, loan support, job creation, poverty reduction, etc., to help drug addicts reintegrate into the community. Building, maintaining and replicating advanced models and examples of drug prevention and fight is concerned; promptly setting an example, motivating and rewarding.

After the meeting, youth union members participated in the march along big streets and in densely populated areas of Lang Son city to propagate about drug prevention and control.
