Honoring the beauty of cultural behavior in the family

(LSO) – Responding to Vietnamese Family Day on June 28, 2020 with the theme “Preserving and promoting the tradition of good behavior culture in the family”, the Provincial Steering Committee on Family Affairs has implemented many meaningful activities to raise the awareness of individuals, families and society to preserve and promote the tradition of good behavior culture, contributing to building happy families.

In modern life, small, nuclear families are increasingly common. According to the latest population and housing census (April 1, 2019) in the province, the proportion of households with five or more people tends to decrease (34.1% in 2009 to 29.6% in 2019).

However, there are still extended families with many generations living harmoniously and happily under the same roof. For example, Mr. Le Van Hao’s family, Vu Le commune, Bac Son district – one of 11 typical young families was commended and rewarded by the Provincial Steering Committee on Family Affairs in June 2020.

Mr. Hao said that he, his wife and two children stay with his parents. In their home, there are three generations of both old people and young people, awkward situations sometimes occur. It is important that everyone be aware of their roles and responsibilities in the family and have proper manners. His parents are always loving and generous with their children and grandchildren; the children respect the elderly. “After you” is good manners, everything will become easy and fun.

The leader of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (on the right) awarded certificates of merit to Dinh Lap district’s typical young families at the ceremony of commending Lang Son province’s “Typical young families” in 2020.

The above facts show that, although the modern society has changed, Vietnamese families’ traditional behavior principles still remain their intact value. Therefore, in order to preserve and promote the beauty of good behavior culture in the family, on March 17, 2020, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Plan No. 854 on piloting the set of family behavior criteria with two main criteria: common behavior criteria (respect, equality, love, sharing) and specific behavior criteria, including four relationships in the family: couple, grandparents-children, parents-children, grandchildren-grandparents, children-parents, siblings.

Implementing this plan, the Provincial Steering Committee on Family Affairs selected Bac Quynh commune (Bac Son district) and Chi Lang commune (Chi Lang district) to pilot the set of family behavior criteria in 2020 with 140 households signing commitments to implement them. In particular, on the occasion of Vietnamese Family Day 2020, the Steering Committees on Family Affairs from the province to grassroots levels, levels, sectors, unions organized many practical activities such as launching ceremonies to implement the set of family behavior criteria; ceremonies to commend typical young families.

Mr. Hoang Quoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of Bac Son District People’s Committee, said that following the direction of the upper level, Bac Son district held a launching ceremony to implement the set of family behavior criteria with 60 households in Bac Quynh commune signing commitments. These will be model families for the District Steering Committee on Family Affairs to evaluate implementation results and draw lessons for replication. On this occasion, the district commended typical young families, contributing to the effective execution of the movement “All people unite to build cultural life”.

Along with that, from June 14 to 28, 2020, 100% of districts and the city simultaneously organized communication activities on Vietnamese Family Day with the theme “Preserving and promoting the tradition of good behavior culture in the family” with meaningful responding activities. Typically, Chi Lang and Bac Son districts commended and rewarded 36 typical young families; Lang Son city oriented and guided wards and communes to organize propaganda activities and meetings in response to Vietnamese Family Day and so on.

Mr. Nguyen Phuc Ha, Director of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that in the coming time, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism would continue to promote propaganda to people from all strata about the set of family behavior criteria; enhancing propaganda, education about ethics and lifestyle in the family. At the same time, improving the quality and number of cultural families as well as replicating advanced examples in family affairs, contributing to honoring and spreading family’s ethical standards and culture.

According to the statistics of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, up to now, the province has built 1,540 reliable address models; 226 happy family clubs with more than 5,600 members; 80 clubs of gender equality and domestic violence prevention and control with over 1,700 members; 750 family clubs for sustainable development and so on.
