Online conference on people’s health care

On August 21, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Health held an online conference to improve people’s health care, proactively adapt and flexibly, contribute to fast recovery and sustainable development. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and directed the conference. Attending the conference were Mr. Vu Duc Dam, Deputy Prime Minister; Mr. Dao Hong Lan, Acting Minister of Health and representatives of relevant ministries and sectors.

According to the report, in the past period, health work has achieved many positive and important results such as health insurance coverage rate increased from 81.7% in 2016 to 91.01% in 2021; achieved the rate of 10 doctors per ten thousand people, 30.5 hospital beds per ten thousand people.

Vietnam is considered by the international community as a bright spot in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals in the health sector, the height, the average life expectancy of people has improved markedly. The domestic production of vaccines ensured 11/12 vaccines. Along with that, Vietnam is the country with the highest coverage of COVID-19 vaccines in the world; organ transplant technology was mastered and transplanted 6/6 major organs.

In the first 6 months of 2022, the number of outpatient medical checkups with health insurance reached over 52 million, the number of inpatient treatments with health insurance reached over 5.5 million. Institutional improvement has been focused, and the application of information technology in the health sector has been enhanced. In preventive healthcare, COVID-19 and other infectious diseases are being well controlled, and non-communicable disease prevention and control continue to be concerned.

In addition to the achievements, leaders of the Ministry of Health and participants of the conference pointed out limitations such as absenteeism, job transfer of medical staff at public health facilities; shortage of drugs, local medical supplies; The progress of vaccination against COVID-19 in many localities is still slow…

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh praised the achievements of the health sector in recent years.

For the tasks and solutions to be implemented in the coming time, the Prime Minister proposed: The health sector continues to play a pivotal role in the prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic, proactively, ready for any situation and absolutely not letting the disease re-emerge. Speeding up the safe and effective vaccine coverage; pay attention to the development of the health system, especially grassroots and preventive medicine. Focusing on implementing drastic and timely measures to solve the shortage of drugs and medical supplies at hospitals; urgently review regulations on socialization, private health development and public-private partnership. Ministries and sectors should soon complete the plan to implement the policy of correctly and fully calculate health service prices.

At the same time, the health sector needs to urgently review, research and advise in time to perfect the health policy system; take care, encourage and appropriately remunerate medical staff. Units in the sector need to continue to innovate working styles, administrative reforms, and improve the efficiency of state management. Strengthening decentralization, publicity, transparency, fight against corruption, waste and negativity in medical units; staff and medical staff should continue to promote solidarity, always strengthen medical ethics, enrich medicine, improve medical techniques; Promoting the learning of Ho Chi Minh’s moral example and style in association with the implementation of political tasks of agencies and units.
