The young of Van Quan: Pioneering for the community

The youth volunteer movement is not only meaningful to the community and residential areas, but also an environment for youth union members and young people to improve their social skills, to practice, to dedicate and to develop. Therefore, this is always a movement that draws great attention of Van Quan District Youth Union.

With a mother of serious illness, getting gradually exhausted and unable to work, every day after class, Trieu Van Phuc, (10th grade student) in Tan Doan commune, Van Quan district has to both take care of his mother and works on the farm. Getting to know about his situation, in 2022, Van Quan District Youth Union has called for volunteers and benefactors to donate more than 38 million VND and some essential necessities for Phuc, helping him to take care of his mother, pay for his life and study.

In addition to the above case, in 2022, Van Quan District Youth Union also called for supporting 1 youth union member suffering from a serious illness, 2 orphaned students, and 1 family suffering from a fire with an amount of more than 30 million VND. This is just a part of the volunteer movement for the community that youth union members in the district have been implementing.

Ms. Ly Thi Lan, Secretary of Van Quan District Youth union, said: “There are more than 7,600 young people in the district. The youth volunteer movement received the enthusiastic response from a large number of young people in the district, which results in many practical works for the community.

Volunteer activities in Van Quan district are regularly and continuously implemented on Youth Month, Summer Volunteer Campaign, Winter Volunteer Program and Spring of Volunteer through “Volunteer Saturday”, “Green Sunday”. Every year, youth union organizations at grassroots level review and advise the Party Committees and governments of communes and tows, then notice the District Youth Union and develop a plan to organize activities for youth works in the year. At the same time, youth unions at grassroots level assign specific tasks to each youth union cell and the number of volunteers in need for initiative implementation of works and tasks.

Van Quan District Youth Union also coordinates with related agencies and units, connects with youth unions inside and outside the province, socio-political organizations to call for resources to implement activities for the community in the district area.

From 2022 up to now, Van Quan district youth unions and associations at all level have completed 3 district youth projects, 28 works, and 96 jobs at grassroots level, achieving 100% of the target on youth projects to celebrate the congresses of youth union at all levels for the term 2022 – 2027. Along with that, the Youth Union of Van Quan district has achieved and exceeded 10/12 targets of the plan in 2022. In 2022, all levels of  youth unions in the district donated 915 gifts of 165 million VND for disadvantaged people; organizing 40 activities on environmental sanitation, garbage collection, cleaning at self-managed youth roads and inter-village roads; planting 27,000 new trees in campus and residential areas and donating them to families with difficult circumstances; facilitating free medical examination and provision if medicine for 150 people, donating 135 blood units, donating working days to 31 poor households living alone; assisting people in evacuating property, overcoming difficulties after floods, etc. in 22 days with more than 5,000 volunteers.

Youth union member To Tieu Cuong, Van Quan town said: “Each volunteer activity brings practical values to the community, residential areas, people in difficult circumstances, children in the area… That’s why every time the youth unions of district and town organize activities, I’m always excited to join.”

The practical works of youth unions at all levels of Van Quan district has been recognized by the Party committee and government. In 2022, Van Quan District Youth Union was awarded a certificate of merit by the Provincial Youth Union as a typical unit.
