Lang Son: preliminary outcomes of population, housing census announced

(LSO) – Lang Son province held a conference to review and release preliminary outcomes of its general population and housing census for 2019 on October 17.

Ho Tien Thieu, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee and head of the provincial Steering Committee for population and housing census, chaired the event, which was attended by Vu Thi Thu Thuy, Director of the Population and Labour Statistics Department under the General Statistics Office of Vietnam and chief of the Office of the Central Steering Committee for the Population and Housing Census.

A report presented at the event showed that the census was carried out on schedule and completed on April 20 this year.

As of 0 a.m on April 1, Lang Son’s population was 781,655, ranking 52th out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide.

The population quality and intellectual level was improved, with the number of literate children under 15 years old increasing significantly. Meanwhile, better housing conditions were recorded; most residents secured stable houses and the average floor area per person hit 22.4 square metres.

Speaking at the conference, Thieu asked relevant public agencies, particularly the statistic sector, to focus on compiling data to publish official results of the census as soon as possible.

Leaders of the provincial People’s Committee present certificates of merit to organisations with outstanding contribution to the census.   

He recommended news agencies increase their coverage on population and housing matters, including the census results and the implementation of the provincial relevant regulations and policies in the past decade, in a bid to raise personnel’s and public awareness.

On the occasion, organisations and individuals making outstanding contribution to the census received certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Lang Son People’s Committee and from the provincial statistics department./.
