Lang Son reviews border management after demarcation

(LSO) – The People’s Committee of northern Lang Son province held a conference on October 11 to review the border management work over the past 10 years since the accomplishment of demarcation and marker planting as well as the implementation of three legal documents on the Vietnam – China land border.

 Present at the event were Hoang Van Nghiem, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council; leaders of the provincial People’s Committee, and representatives of the Border Guard High Command, Military Region 1 High Command, the National Border Committee and provincial departments and sectors.

Lang Son province has a borderline of over 231km bordering China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with 474 border markers.

Ten years after completing the border demarcation and market planting, and implementing three legal documents on the Vietnam-China land border, the situation along the shared border has been basically stable.

Lang Son has maintained exchange and cooperation with Guangxi and joined hands to build a borderline of peace, stability, friendship and development. Lang Son and Chinese border guards conducted 17 joint patrols. The two sides held 273 talks, conferences and field meetings, and exchanged letters and diplomatic notes for 1,052 times.

At present, Lang Son has 12 border gates, including two international border gates, one bilateral border gates and nine auxiliary one. Total trade turnover through the local border gates has witnessed year-on-year growth.

Participants at the conference focused discussed and put forth measures to better the border management work in the new situation.

Speaking at the event, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Hoang Van Nghiem asked party committees, administrations, departments and agencies at all levels, especially border districts, communes and towns, to seriously follow the Party Central Committee’s resolutions on national border protection strategy, implement the three legal agreements on the Vietnam – China land border, the Law on National Borders and relevant laws, and improve the material and spiritual lives of local residents border areas.

He also requested relevant forces to strengthen cooperation in border management, effectively fight cross-border crime, and facilitate export-import and immigration activities, thus helping to intensify friendship and cooperation with Guangxi.

On the occasion, 21 collectives and 17 individuals were presented with certificates of merit by the Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee in recognition of their contributions to border management and protection, and implementation of the three legal agreements during the 2009-2019 period./.
