Urgent measures to prevent and fight against the outbreak of acute dermatitis on cattle

(LSO) – In the afternoon of November 18th, the provincial People’s Committee of Lang Son held a 3-level online meeting to implement the urgent measures  of preventing and fighting against the epidemic of lumpy dermatitis on cattle. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Ho Tien Thieu, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee.

 According to the report from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, from the time of the discovery of the first bovine dermatitis outbreak (on October 13rd), to November 18th, the lumpy dermatitis was  terminated on buffaloes and cows of 116 households in 43 villages in 19 communes and towns in 7 administrative units. The total infected buffaloes and cows were 189; the number of cattle died, forcing to be destroyed was 7 (weighting 714 kg).

According to specialists, the risk of spreading the disease was very high.  Due to the fact that it is a contagious disease, while cattle are raised freely. Cattle cages are not hygienic and  disinfected.

Faced with the complicated development of the inflammatory disease in buffalos and cows, right from the first detection of the disease, the Provincial People’s Committee has directed functional departments, district authorities to urgently implement measures. prevention and control of inflammatory dermatitis on cattle, thereby minimizing the spread of the disease on a large scale.

At the meeting, representatives of departments, branches, districts and cities discussed,  identified clearly the risk of the widespread of the disease, proposed preventive measures in the coming time.

Speaking at the conference, the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee pointed out that the disease of dermatitis on cattle is a dangerous disease causing great damage. Therefore, branches at all levels need to strengthen communication promotion so that local people could understand and actively participate in prevention and control activities.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development urgently advised the Provincial People’s Committee to adjust mechanisms and policies related to disease prevention and control, recommended the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to early consider and have decision on the import of vaccines to proactively vaccinate buffaloes and cows, and supported equipment and materials for Lang Son for prevention and control.

At the same time, it is necessary for functional branches to strengthen  coordination and well implemented the prevention, control, and prevention of epidemics on a large scale.
