Teacher learns and follows Uncle Ho in innovation and creativity

Studying and following Uncle Ho, teacher Phung Thi Thanh Thao, Vice Principal of Secondary School in Van Linh Commune, Chi Lang District constantly strives  for innovation and creativity in professional work as well as activities. In the past 3 years, she has worked with the Board of Directors to improve the quality of teaching and learning, leading the school to achieve outstanding achievements. In the middle of May 2023, teacher Phung Thi Thanh Thao was the only representative of the province to be honored by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor at the conference praising advanced examples of studying and following  Ho Chi Minh ideology and morality, lifestyle in civil servants, public employees and workers organized in Hanoi.

Born and raised in Hoa Binh commune, Chi Lang district, since she was a student (grade 12), Ms.Phung Thi Thanh Thao (born in 1984) had outstanding academic achievements compared to her peers when she was young. won the consolation prize at the National Excellent Student Competition in Geography in 2002. After completing the high school program, Ms. Thao passed the exam and studied at the Faculty of Literature, Thai Nguyen University of Pedagogy. After graduating from school, she returned to her hometown and became a teacher at Bang Huu Commune Secondary School (Bang Huu Commune, Chi Lang District), after that, she transferred to Van Linh Commune Secondary School (in 2011), with her love for the profession, she is always enthusiastic and constantly explores and innovates teaching methods.

Following Uncle Ho’s teachings, constantly creating to improve work efficiency, from 2015 to now, through her teaching practice, Ms. Thao has had 8 topics and initiatives recognized at grassroots level and applied in practice. For example, the initiative “Organizing creative learning experiences for students in teaching Literature”. Student Hoang Phuong Anh, class 9B, Van Linh Commune Secondary School said: Ms. Thao’s Literature class is always attractive to us because she always organizes many interesting activities to help us both understand the lesson and feel very happy. Among them, I like the most experiential activities such as: “I practice to be a tour guide, I’m a small reporter, I’m a youtuber, I practice being a young teacher”…. Once, I was allowed to act as a tour guide taking the whole class on a trip to my commune, other times I was able to make presentations, practice filming videos introducing the beauty of my hometown. Through those activities, she helped us to love Literature more and build pride in our homeland.

At the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, Ms. Thao was appointed to hold the position of Vice Principal of Van Linh Commune Secondary School. She said: At that time, the academic results of students in the school were low, there were years of study, the average score of students entering the 10th grade or the quality score of the school’s excellent students is often in the “top” lowest of the district. Concerned with that situation, after being appointed, I and the school’s Board of Directors were determined to implement innovation in teaching and learning.

Specifically, the goal in the renovation work is to improve the quality of students’ entrance exams to 10th grade. Accordingly, the school has organized to increase the duration of basic subjects including: Literature, Mathematics, English in the exam preparation program in grade 10; schedule alternately with other subjects to enhance appropriate knowledge and skills; request homeroom teachers, subject teachers to closely follow and capture the thoughts of students, especially weak and poor perform student, to encourage and tutor each student for free…

Along with that, she herself is both a manager, and directly teaches and prepares for students for the 10th entrance exam, the provincial team of excellent students. From Ms. Thao’s efforts, along with the positivity of the school’s teachers and students, over the past 3 years, the school has made great strides. From the school year 2020-2021 up to now, the school has had more than 50 times of students achieving excellent students at district and provincial levels and many awards at provincial and ministerial science and technology competitions… Every year, the school always has students taking the 10th grade exam with the highest scores in the district.

Besides professional work, Ms. Thao also actively participates in trade union activities. According to Uncle Ho’s teachings, trade union officials must be close to union members, in the role of a member of the school’s grassroots trade union executive committee, head of the women’s committee, she is always interested in capturing the thoughts and aspirations of female union members to advise on the reasonable arrangement and arrangement of labor, in accordance with professional qualifications, health, family circumstances…

Mr. Hoang Duc Binh, Chairman of the Labor Confederation of Chi Lang district said: After selecting advanced examples of grassroots trade unions in the area to propose to superiors for praise and reward, we selected teacher Phung Thi Thanh Thao because she has many excellent achievements in studying and following Uncle Ho.

With her own efforts, for 8 consecutive years (2014 – 2022), Ms. Phung Thi Thanh Thao was evaluated as an officer who successfully completed the task, the party member who successfully completed the task, won the title of grassroots emulation employee. From 2020 until now, she has received many certificates of merit and certificates of merit from all levels and disciplines in studying and following Uncle Ho as well as in professional work and trade union work. In May 2023, she was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for her excellent achievements in studying and following Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality and lifestyle in the 2021-2022 period.
