The delegation of the National Committee on Aging inspected in Lang Son

(LSO) – This morning (October 15), the Delegation of the National Committee on Aging led by Mrs. Trinh Thi Thuy, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Member of the National Committee on Aging inspected the implementation of the Law on the Elderly and policies for the elderly in Lang Son province.

Welcoming and working with the delegation were Mr. Duong Xuan Huyen, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Head of the Provincial Working Committee on Aging; representatives of relevant departments and agencies and Cao Loc District People’s Committee.

According to the report at the inspection session, the whole province has 82,220 elderly people, accounting for 10.5% of the province’s population.

In recent years, the implementation of the Law on the Elderly and related policies and regimes has always received close attention and direction from the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People’s Council, the Provincial People’s Committee, the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee and the Provincial Working Committee on Aging; the participation and coordination of all levels and sectors in implementation from provincial to grassroots levels. Thereby, the Law on the Elderly has really come to life, the care and promotion of  elderly people’s role has achieved many remarkable results.

Currently, the percentage of the elderly having health insurance cards is over 96.2%; Nearly 13,840 elderly people are enjoying a monthly allowance. Health examination for the elderly is done periodically; cultural, artistic activities, longevity wishing, longevity celebrations and visits to the elderly are concerned by all levels, sectors and the people and so on.

At the inspection session, the inspection delegation exchanged a number of contents in order to effectively implement the Law on the Elderly and policies for the elderly in the province.

Speaking at the inspection session, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee affirmed his direction that departments, agencies and members of the Working Committee on Aging will continue to well perform the work of the elderly in the coming time. He made some recommendations such as proposing the central government to develop policies for the elderly in a synchronous manner; there is zoning according to remote, mountainous, border and island regions; need to increase the monthly allowance for the elderly and so forth.

Speaking at the inspection session, the delegation head highly appreciated Lang Son province’s efforts in implementing the Law on the Elderly and the elderly work.

She proposed that the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People’s Committee, departments, committees and agencies in Lang Son province continue to pay attention to and direct the good implementation of the Law on the Elderly as well as regimes and policies for the elderly; pay attention to promoting the role of the elderly in all fields. The province needs to develop plans and action plans on the work of the elderly, suitable to the local characteristics in the coming time; building clubs of the elderly with many types and fields of activities to promote the role of the elderly and so on.

Regarding the province’s proposals, the delegation acknowledged and synthesized them and will report them to the National Committee on Aging, then advise and propose to ministries and central agencies to consider and adjust policies on the elderly to be more suitable with the real situation.
