Striving to make Lang Son a bright spot in attracting investment and developing enterprises

(LSO) – That was the direction of Mrs. Lam Thi Phuong Thanh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee at the conference discussing solutions to improve the business investment environment and boost Lang Son’s provincial competitiveness index (PCI), co-organized by the Provincial People’s Committee and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) this morning (November 30).

Attending the conference were Mr. Ho Tien Thieu, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; leaders of the Provincial People’s Council, the Provincial People’s Committee; leaders of the Fatherland Front Committee, departments, agencies in the province and 150 typical enterprises in the area. On the VCCI side, there were Mr. Vu Tien Loc, Chairman of VCCI and economic experts.

Delivering opening remarks at the conference, the Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People’s Committee affirmed that over the past years, the Party committees and authorities at all levels in the province have focused on directing and synchronously implementing many solutions to reform administration, improve competitiveness and create a favorable and equal business environment for businesses and investors. Thereby, it helps make an important contribution to promoting the province’s socio-economic development.

However, that development is not commensurate with the province’s potentials and advantages. This conference is an opportunity for leaders, managers, officials to participate in the implementation of tasks related to people and businesses, analyze results, understand PCI correctly and fully. From there, they would discuss solutions to strongly improve this index, creating a more favorable business investment environment to promote the common development.

The general report on PCI improvement in the province over the past 5 years gave an overview of the province’s efforts in administrative reform; improving the investment environment; creating a favorable environment to support startups; ensuring business rights, equal rights to access resources and business opportunities for enterprises; organizing regular meetings to remove difficulties for businesses; improving the efficiency of advertisement and investment promotion and so on.

Up to now, the province has over 3.3 thousand enterprises operating with a total registered capital of over 29 trillion VND; create jobs for over 50.2 thousand workers with an average income of from 5 to 6 million/person/month. In the 2016 – 2020 period, the province has approved investment policy for 110 projects with a total registered capital of over 20.3 trillion VND.

According to the results of VCCI’s announcing PCI in 2019, Lang Son reached 63.9 points (increasing 9.18 points compared to 2015); ranked 50 out of 63 provinces and cities (increasing 7 grades compared to 2015), being the top province in the group of provinces and cities with average scores.

The conference listened to VCCI’s economic experts analyzing the overview and each component index constituting the province’s PCI in 2019.

The experts highly appreciated the province’s efforts, at the same time pointed out  limitations on the management, administration and implementation of public duties in the process of creating a favorable investment, production and business environment. Also, they made recommendations for Lang Son to continue improving its PCI in the coming time such as improving business support services; continuing to make efforts to reform administration, creating a supply of skilled labor; strengthening business meetings and dialogues at many levels and so forth.

Speaking at the conference, the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee affirmed the province’s determination in improving the investment, production and business environment and raising PCI.

She emphasized that all levels and sectors must consider this a key and regular task, strengthen propaganda to create a strong change in officials’ awareness; on the basis of opinions at the conference, the Provincial People’s Committee is required to assign relevant sectors to review and analyze each component index to have solutions to improve PCI, striving to help Lang Son’s PCI in the country’s good group in the 2021 – 2025 period.

She directed all levels and sectors to continue promoting administrative reform, focusing on administrative procedures; strengthening administrative discipline; resolutely, strictly handle officials who have acts of troubling businesses.

Enterprises and investors need to actively and proactively coordinate with relevant sectors to remove difficulties and obstacles, create a healthy and effective business investment environment, striving to make Lang Son a bright spot in attracting investment, developing enterprises, having a favorable investment environment.
