Trang Dinh: Promoting OCOP product development

– Over the past time, Trang Dinh district has focused on directing and implementing the program “One Commune One Product “(OCOP). Thereby, it contributes to improving production value, increasing income for people.

Ms. Hoang Thi Bach’s family, That Khe township, Trang Dinh district has been making black jelly for many years. In 2020, propagated about the OCOP program by the district’s specialized agency, her family registered to participate with Hong Nhung black jelly product which was evaluated and graded by the competent authority as a 3-star product at the provincial level.

Ms. Bach said that participating in the OCOP program, the product is increasingly trusted by customers and the consumer market is wider. Black jelly is canned, transported throughout provinces from the North to the South. With the current capacity, on average the facility produces and supplies more than 60,000 black jelly boxes/month to the market, revenue is nearly one billion VND/year. Her family is expected to expand the production scale, focusing on innovating packaging and labels to meet the needs of the market.

Not only Hong Nhung black jelly product, participating in the OCOP program is an opportunity to promote and improve the value of agricultural products in the area, right after the province implemented the program, the District People’s Committee issued a plan and direct relevant units to promote implementation; propagate, mobilize, guide and support production facilities participating in the program. Accordingly, from 2019 up to now, the District Division of Agriculture and Rural Development has coordinated with units such as the District Youth Union, the District Women’s Union, etc. to organize three training courses for more than 210 turns of people. In parallel, in 2020, from the OCOP program’s budget of over 830 million VND, the District People’s Committee supported the participants of the program with more than 10,000 traceability stamps; 6,000 product packages and labels; trade promotion organization; build a website to promote products and so on.

Mr. Ha Viet Quy, Director of Duc Quy Import-Export Investment and Production Co., Ltd, Trang Dinh district said that with guidance and support from specialized agencies, the company has organized production according to guaranteed hygiene safety standards, investing in modern processing and packaging machinery with full packaging, labels, stamps of traceability, etc. In 2020, the company’s herbal jelly products and powdered black jelly achieved 3-star OCOP products at provincial level, thanks to that, the price is stable, the market is more open. In 2020, the output of black jelly powder reached nearly 400 tons, two times higher than in 2019, the revenue reached over two billion VND.

Currently, in Trang Dinh district, there are four products that have been classified and evaluated to achieve 3-star OCOP products, including herbal jelly, powdered black jelly, Hong Nhung black jelly, Ong Vang sticky rice. The implementation of the OCOP program contributes to changing production methods, opening up opportunities for people to participate in production chains and improving the value of agricultural products. Since then, increasing income for people, currently, the average income in the district is 42 million VND/person/year, 2.3 times higher than 2015.

From the values ​​brought by OCOP products, in 2021, the District People’s Committee has selected three more typical products including duck eggs (Quoc Khanh commune), green gourds (De Tham commune), and khảo cake (Dai Dong commune) to develop OCOP products and at the same time, continue to propagate and guide communes to select and register products to participate in the OCOP program. With the synchronous implementation of solutions from propaganda and training to guidance and support of specialized agencies and the initiative of production facilities, through the OCOP program, Trang Dinh district has been step by step to improve the quality and value of agricultural products in the area, making an important contribution to raising people’s incomes.
