Participating in the movement “The Saturday for new rural development, urban civilization” in Dinh Lap: Small jobs but great meaning

– For nearly 2 months, regularly every Saturday, cadres, civil servants and public employees of agencies from district level to commune level in Dinh Lap district have volunteered to contribute their efforts to participate in the building of new rural areas with specific and practical activities, contributing to the development of new rural areas in the district.

On August 14, more than 40 public servants and employees at Dinh Lap district agencies coordinated with the people of Con Duong village, Dinh Lap commune to concrete sports ground and roads. In just one morning, nearly 100 villagers and volunteers concreted 200 m2 of sports ground next to the village cultural house and concreted 40 m of village road with a width of 2.5 m. Since being completed and put into use, they have helped people have good conditions for physical exercise and convenient travel.

Previously, nearly 100 civil servants, people also concreted 350 m2 of sports ground in Po Tau village, Thai Binh commune. These are just two of the many projects that volunteers who are civil servants and public employees in Dinh Lap district supported in new rural developing communes.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Hung, Civil servant of Economic and Infrastructure Division of Dinh Lap District said: “On July 25, 2021, I participated in building a concrete road to the cultural house in Khe Vuong village, Dinh Lap commune. This work aims to contribute a part of my efforts to the implementation of new rural development, helping to change people’s lives and the countryside to be more prosperous.

The movement “The Saturday for new rural development, urban civilization” was launched by Dinh Lap District People’s Committee to enhance the responsibilities of all levels, sectors, civil servants and public officials and the consensus of society in new rural development. Consequently, it creates the joint power of the whole political system to effectively implement the fields of work, contributing to the achievement of the goal of new rural development in the district. The movement has been implemented since the beginning of July 2021 and expected to maintain until 2025, when Dinh Lap district is recognized as meeting new rural standards. The movement sets a goal in 2021 to build 2 or more flower routes in each commune with a minimum length of 600 m/route associated with the model of “Clean house, beautiful garden”, to build one road  of “New model countryside” in each village.

Ms. Nong Thi Yen Vinh, Head of the District Division of Agriculture and Rural Development (the agency advising on the implementation of the movement) said: “In order for the movement to be implemented effectively and popularly, with the consent of the District People’s Committee, every week, we organize two volunteer teams with 20 civil servants/teams together with people to carry out new rural development activities in two villages and residential areas. In addition, we also coordinate with the People’s Committees of the communes to organize the works for new rural development every Saturday. Based on the actual needs of each commune, the unit will coordinate with divisions and commissions in the district to send civil servants to lower levels to participate in new rural development activities.

The works that civil servants and public employees carry out in this movement include organizing the propaganda of the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies on new rural development and civilized cities to the people; dealing with letters, complaints and denunciations; supporting people to apply online public services when carrying out administrative procedures; supporting in granting land use right certificates; propagating and guiding how to prevent and control diseases for plants and animals; vocational training for rural workers… Along with that, they join with local people to build roads, clear sewers, clean the environment, build flower routes…

Currently, in Dinh Lap district, each commune has achieved an average of 16.6 criteria for new rural development. In which 6/10 communes are recognized as meeting new rural standards, 1 commune has met advanced rural development standards and 1 commune is implementing advanced new rural development. After nearly 2 months of implementation, it has been shown that the movement ” The Saturday for new rural development, urban civilization ” has raised the spirit and responsibility of leaders of Party committees and authorities at communal level, creating an exciting atmosphere in the community. It is believed that in the coming time, the movement will continue to be widely deployed, contributing to speeding up the completion of goal for the new-rural-developed district by 2025.

Up to now, after 6 weeks of implementing the movement, the whole Dinh Lap district has mobilized over 2,400 turns of district and commune officials and civil servants to participate in volunteer activities. Thereby, 1,300 new ornamental trees were planted, 2,400 m2 of flower roads were trimmed, 12,000 m2 of roads were cleaned, over 8 m3 of waste were collected, 1,300 m2 of sports fields were concreted.
