Keeping “fire” in the rear for the front line against the epidemic

– Along with the determination and courage of frontline soldiers against the epidemic, those in the rear have silently shared, sacrificed and kept fire for each family’s home.

Currently, Huu Lung district has the most Covid-19 cases in the province. Therefore, officials, nurses and doctors here are working day and night to fight the epidemic.

For nearly a month now, every day, the two children of Mrs. Ngo Thi Huong, Chief Nursing Officer, Faculty of Traditional Medicine, Huu Lung District Health Center have to take care of each other by themselves because their mother is busy working at the medical quarantine checkpoint and their father passed away due to illness, grandparents are old and weak and live far away. Giap Thuy Linh, Mrs. Huong’s eldest daughter, said that this year, she is 13 years old, her brother is eight years old. Due to the epidemic, her mother is very busy and rarely comes home. Every day, her brother and she study together, play with toys, cook rice, feed and bathe her brother. They love their mother very much, they hope the epidemic will end soon so that her mother can spare some time staying at home with her and her brother.

Mrs. Huong said that the family has no one to take care of her children, so she asks her sister and neighbors to sometimes buy food and take care of them. Her two children know their mother’s hardships, so they play very well at home by themselves, or text or call to encourage her. This is a great source of encouragement, helping her to be motivated to complete the task well.

Mrs. Lanh Thi Quyen, Hoang Van Thu ward, Lang Son city, guides her children to study when their father is away

Mr. Trieu Van Quan, a member of the Rapid Response Team of the Provincial Center for Disease Control, has not been home for nearly 20 days. Every day, he can only talk to his 3-year-old son on the phone. Mr. Lanh Van Phay, Mr. Quan’s father-in-law (Dong Kinh ward, Lang Son city) said that every time there is an epidemic, his son-in-law is very busy. His daughter works in Trang Dinh district and only comes back on weekends, so his wife and he take care of their grandson every day. They do not find it difficult, they just worry that their daughter and son-in-law go to work dangerously, not being close to their son. They always try to take care of and teach him well so that their daughter and son-in-law can work with peace of mind.

These are just a few examples of the “rear” of health workers participating in disease prevention and control. Ms. Pham Thi Nhan, Chairwoman of the Health Industry Trade Union, said that currently, the whole industry has nearly 2,500/4,000 officials, nurses, doctors and workers directly involved in disease prevention and control in the province. Each person has their own situation, but they all have a common mission, arrange family work to perform professional tasks for the health of the community. They always care and take care of the lives of trade union members and employees.

From the beginning of May 2021 until now, the Trade Union has received and supported over 100 million VND to give gifts to officials, nurses and doctors participating in the fight against the epidemic. On the occasion of June 1, the sector’s trade union gave 100 gifts to children who are children of workers, officials and laborers engaged in epidemic prevention and control, each worth 300,000 VND.

Not only the health sector, soldiers of the armed forces also have to participate in the frontline of the fight against the epidemic such as border protection, support for quarantine areas, tracing and zoning of cases related to Covid-19 cases. Typically, border guards, day and night, patrolling at the border, controlling trails and openings, preventing illegal entry and exit, making an important contribution to the Covid-19 prevention and control. According to the statistics of the Provincial Border Guard Command, currently, the whole province has 156 fixed shacks, checkpoints and mobile groups; 17 checkpoints in and out of the border area with more than 500 border guards and officers on duty.

In order for the frontline to be assured against the epidemic, the wives in the rear of border guards always sacrifice and sympathize with their husbands. Mrs. Lanh Thi Quyen, Hoang Van Thu ward, Lang Son city, wife of Captain Ma The Diep, head of Ban Chat Border Guard Station, Chi Lang Border Guard Post said that her husband rarely goes home, especially during the current complicated epidemic. She is pregnant with her second child, her eldest child is eight years old, taking care of her child and her family alone is very hard work. Overcoming difficulties, she always tries to arrange her work, take care of her family and children, her family side and her husband’s family side so that her husband can feel secured to work.

There are many families, stories about the rear of the “soldiers” on the front lines against the epidemic cannot be told. Although there are no specific statistics, each rear is a solid fulcrum, encouraging great spirit for each “soldier” to overcome difficulties and complete the task of joining hands to fight the epidemic in the province.
